In June, members of the Northeast Ag Safety and Health Coalition (NEASHC) gathered at the University of New Hampshire for the group’s annual in-person meeting. The two-day session focused on innovative approaches to agricultural safety and health education and featured a variety of trainings and demonstrations designed to enhance outreach efforts.
Presentations featured the UNH Shared Soil podcast, virtual reality technology, adult education strategies, Spanish-language programming resources, and pesticide safety. Hands-on demonstrations gave attending members an opportunity to practice with new technology they’d be taking back to their states, including virtual reality goggles and a reinvented “Mr. Lifty” safe lifting demonstration kit.
The highlight for every NEASHC meeting is a field trip to a local facility that exemplifies occupational safety. This year, attendees visited the UNH Thompson School of Applied Science sawmill for a discussion and demonstration of real-world safety concerns and prevention in practice.
